Grand
Slam of North American Wild Sheep
This slam was the early roots of Grand Slam Club/Ovis.
GSCO founder Bob Housholder first began wondering what hunters had
taken a Grand Slam in 1955, as mentioned in our history web page.
A Grand Slam when one indiviudal hunter takes
one each of the four different North American wild sheep. These sheep
include: 1) Dall's, 2) Stone's, 3) Rocky Mountain or California Bighorn,
and 4) Desert sheep.
The Rocky Mountain and California bighorns are close
relatives and thus they count as one leg of the Grand Slam,
even if a hunter has taken both sheep.
A major part of GSCO's operations is to document all
legally taken Grand Slams. To document your ram, you simply have to
complete the Grand Slam form (pdf
file).
